Photogrammetry
Photogrammetry is a geospatial technique that generates 3D models and spatial data from 2D images. By using overlapping photographs from aerial, terrestrial, or drone sources, it applies computer vision algorithms to reconstruct geometric and textural details of physical environments. This non-invasive method provides a cost-effective alternative to traditional surveying, leveraging advanced computational technologies.


Applications
Photogrammetry generates detailed digital representations of real-world environments across multiple disciplines. It supports civil engineering projects, aids forensic investigations, preserves cultural heritage, monitors environmental changes, and assists archaeological research. Ongoing technological advancements in drone systems and software continue to expand its practical applications in spatial and environmental analysis.


Research Focus: Built Environment
Our research examines the urban structural elements, such as architectural typologies and form. Integrating photogrammetric 3D modeling and spatial analysis, our work addresses challenges in heritage conservation, urban regeneration, and constructing Twin Cities (objects).


Case study: Tripoli, Lebanon/Cairo, Egypt


This is a complete cross-section of Zuqaq ̄ al-Bayrut ̄ ̄ı alley, which highlights the entrance tunnel, inner residential courtyard, covered workshops on the ground floor, and connections with other inner alley street networks.
Madrasa al-Ṭawash ̄ıyah(الطواشية مدرسة(, highlighting the main Mamluk ̄ features. 2(A) highlights the 3D cross-section of the photogrammetry outcome process with texture, while Fig. 2(B) shows the same model without any texture. Both figures show the transfer of spaces from public to private.
